Review of #1 Keto Meal Provider in Australia

Updated on Dec 06, 2023
  • With nearly 70 keto meals, A Life Plus is one of the best keto meal providers in Australia.
  • Highly customisable to suit all dietary needs, A Life Plus takes into account your goals (e.g. weight loss) and tailors your meals to reach those goals.
  • Meals are flavoursome, fresh and satisfying.

If you’re looking for a keto provider, your options are My Muscle Chef, Workout Meals, Foober and A Life Plus

Arguably, the number one keto meal provider is A Life Plus, with a huge ketogenic meal offering. While it’s certainly known for its ketogenic meals, it’s also highly customisable and unique in its offering, with alkaline meals, NDIS meals, plant-based and organic meals on offer too.

Not to mention A Life Plus is very customisable to your calorie goals as well as your food preferences – whether you’re gluten free, dairy free or just don’t like bacon for example, you can mention this in your order and A Life Plus will alter the meals to suit you.

In this review, I’m going to be going over things like taste, what I liked, what I thought could be improved and some general thoughts, the ordering process and what other customers have to say about A Life Plus.

My 5 Day Keto Meal Plan

I ordered the 5 day Keto Diet Meal Plan of lunch and dinner, with each meal being 250g. It cost me $130, which equates to $13.00 per meal.

When I ordered my meal via the website, I selected the ketogenic menu, but as mentioned there’s also an alkaline menu, NDIS menu, plant-based, organic and even just a produce menu.

You can choose from 3, 5 or 7 day meals plans for lunch and dinner. There’s also the option to choose between 250g standard or 250g vegetarian, or 400g standard or vegetarian. You can either then let A Life Plus send you meals, or choose your own meals from a drop down menu.

To be honest I didn’t notice the drop down menu option until after I’d made my order, so A Life Plus just sent me the meals they chose.

There are a lot of options as well like breakfast and snacks, but I just stuck to lunches and dinners.

I noted on my order that I’m gluten free and dairy free. But after I placed my order, I received an email from A Life Plus asking more detailed questions about my diet and goals.

Please let me know if you have any questions or further requests.

Warm regards,

I told them I was looking to lose 5kg and wanted 400 calories per meal. After taking into consideration my body type and lifestyle, they built me a meal plan of 1230 kcal with 94g of fat, 25g of carbs and 70g of protein. I then made my own breakfast based and made sure it fit within these macros.

They even sent me this handy table to help!

My Meals from A Life Plus

I received 10 meals in total – 5 lunches and 5 dinners. I asked for my meals to be roughly 400 or so calories each. This is what I got:

  • BBQ Pulled Pork, Coleslaw and Pickled Chillies
  • Korean BBQ beef with Sriracha Cauliflower and Konjac Noodles
  • Keto Bacon Cauliflower Mac & Cheese
  • Satay Chicken with Onions, Mushrooms, Capsicum and Green Beans
  • Tuna Nicoise Salad
  • Thai Red Chicken Curry with Fresh Basil & Broccoli
  • Puerto Rican Lemon Coconut Fish with Cauliflower Salad, Green Beans and Roast Fennel
  • Slow Cooked Braised Beef Brisket with Chimmichuri, Arugula, Green Beans and Cherry Tomatoes
  • Asian Sesame Chicken Salad
  • Roast Salmon with Kale, Israeli Cauliflower, Roast Fennel and Tartare Sauce

I honestly loved the taste of most of the meals and was very surprised at just how good it was. There were only two dishes I didn’t love, but that comes down to my personal preference rather than anything to do with the quality of the food.

I think A Life Plus has been my favourite provider to date based on taste and flavour profile.

In terms of satiety, I was a bit nervous looking at the size of the meals, but overall I wasn’t hungry after each meal and was pretty well satisfied.

My all-time favourite meal – BBQ Pulled Pork, Coleslaw and Pickled Chillies

Dishes I loved

  • BBQ Pulled Pork, Coleslaw and Pickled Chillies
  • Korean BBQ beef with Sriracha Cauliflower and Konjac Noodles
  • Keto Bacon Cauliflower Mac & Cheese
  • Satay Chicken with Onions, Mushrooms, Capsicum and Green Beans

Not my Favourites

  • Tuna Nicoise Salad
  • Thai Red Chicken Curry with Fresh Basil & Broccoli

Did I Lose Any Weight?

I ended up losing 800g over the course of a week, which is the most I’ve lost in one week in a while.

A Life Plus Menu

A Life Plus has a very impressive menu with nearly 70 meals to choose from, from beef to chicken, fish, to pork and lamb, vegetarian meals and even 5 pizza dishes.

Another favourite – Korean BBQ beef with Sriracha Cauliflower and Konjac Noodles

Most meal providers offer anywhere from 30-50 meal choices and don’t often offer things like pork and lamb (which are often overlooked in favour of cheaper meals). There are also snacks, drinks and desserts available to add to your order. Or, you can order a fruit and veggie produce box too.

The cool thing about A Life Plus is whatever your diet is, A Life Plus can put together a menu of meals for you with all meals hand cooked and delivered based on your requirements.

How Much Does A Life Plus Cost?

You can order snacks, drinks and some meals off the menu as single items, but otherwise you need to order based on meal plans and choose between 250g meals or 400g meals.

PlanNumber of MealsCost
3 Day Meal Plan (250g)6$78.00
5 Day Meal Plan (250g)10$130.00
7 Day Meal Plan (250g)14$182.00
3 Day Meal Plan (400g)6$96.00
5 Day Meal Plan (400g)10$160.00
7 Day Meal Plan (400g)14$224.00

There isn’t a discount for larger orders, which is unlike most other meal delivery services. When comparing the cost between other meal providers, I’d say A Life Plus does come out on the higher end of the scale, but with the quality of food and the customisation and hand-cooked to order factor, it’s worth it.

The Pros and Cons

Pro
  • Very tasty meals with fresh produce
  • Highly customisable to dietary needs and taste preferences
  • Great customer service
Cons
  • Website and ordering can be somewhat confusing
  • Some customers report issues with missing meals from orders

Ordering From A Life Plus

Ordering isn’t as simple as some of the bigger players, especially with all the added optionals, so you might find yourself taking a bit longer to order. It’s also easy to miss the box you can tick to choose your own meals (which I missed).

When you do check the box to choose your own meals, there’s no way to filter the meals, it’s just a long list you have to go through. Not the worst thing in the world.  There is also no dietary or ingredient information available for each meal in the list, so you can’t make any informed choices based on calories, protein content etc unless you look at the separate PDF menu and cross-reference.

Where Does A Life Plus Deliver?

A Life Plus has a pretty good delivery radius across Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Adelaide, yet no delivery to Perth, Darwin or Tas.

Food is delivered with ice-bricks in a cooler bag

Free delivery for orders above $50 is a good deal, as some providers require you to order at least $100 of food to qualify for free delivery, with other providers charging a delivery fee no matter how much you order.

Customer Reviews

Much like coriander, it appears you either LOVE A Life Plus, or it isn’t really your cup of tea.

Looking at customer reviews across platforms like Mealprep.com.au, Reddit, Product and Review, overall people seem to really enjoy A Life Plus with taste of food, customisation capabilities and good customer service the main selling points.

The less than shiny review suggests the serving sizes are small, food is overly oily (to be fair to A Life Plus, keto food is high in fat so that would make sense) and that it doesn’t reheat that well.
